Sops for Central staff in Naxal-hit areas soon
In an attempt to encourage central government and railway officials to serve in Naxal-affected areas, the government is thinking of an incentive for those who are posted in those areas.
The quantum of the proposed allowance being considered at the highest levels in the government is to the tune of 15 per cent of the basic pay.
Sources said Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) secretary Shantanu Consul held a meeting with officials from Home and Finance ministries, and is considering the proposal to be implemented. The origin of the proposal was at a recent meeting between DoPT officials and Central government employees’ representatives where the Central government employees from Maharashtra complained that the state government gives allowances to those state government officials who are stationed in the Naxal-affected areas of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli whereas Central government’s employees in those areas don’t get similar incentive.
