Aadhar made compulsory for PF accounts. Existing users to get time
The EPFO is making the aadhar number mandatory for opening new provident fund account as a part of the documents containg the Know your Customer (KYC) credentials. The government had earlier made Aadhaar letter issued by Unique Identification Authority of India, admissible as proof of address The  The new requirement will come into effect from 1st March, 2013.  The existing 5 crore provident fund subscribers will also be required to submit but will be given sufficient time to submit their Aadhar number.  An enrolment ID will be given to those who do not have Aadhaar number.  This enrolment ID can be used inplace of the Aadhaar number till it is submitted.

The pensioners will also have to provide their Aadhar number. The details of the Aadhar number can be given in the bank where they are having the account. The authorities informed that this decision is taken to solve the problems being faced related to PF accounts when the employee is shifting from one organization to another.

EPOF already asked all the EPF account holders to provide the details of Aadhar online.  Government of India linked the funds transfer programme with Aadhar and now provident fund account is also being linked with Aadhar.  Steps are being taken to replace the EPF account number with Aadhar number.  EPFO already issued orders to prepare a database by registering the Aadhar number of employees in the districts where issuing of Aadhar cards.

Employment registration number of the person is to be given if the new employee is not having an Aadhar number.  After he gets the Aadhar number the unique identity number will be stored in place of employment registration number.  Pension payment, withdrawing of provident fund etc will be brought under EPFO funds transfer scheme and will be linked with Aadhar number.
