NFIR general secretary M Raghavaiah felicitated
National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) general secretary M Raghavaiah was felicitated by a  large number of railway employees under the banner of the Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS).

Raghavaiah, was given a grand welcome at Vadodara railway station when he arrived in Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express. WRMS had organized the programme to felicitate Raghavaiah, who has been recently conferred honorary doctorate by the University of Florida, America.

Earlier on Friday, thousands of railway employees had felicitated him at Mumbai and Surat.

Raghavaiah, the staff side leader of 34 lakh Central government employees in the joint consultative machinery - the National Council - for the Government of India, has already appraised the Union government on the concerns of railway employees.

On Tuesday, he had written a letter to Union minister for railways D V Sadananda Gowda to protest against opening up Indian Railways to foreign direct investment (FDI) and implementation of privatization.

"In the notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Government of India, it is seen that construction, operation, transportation, maintenance among others shall be opened up to FDI which no worker can afford to reconcile with. It is a shocking decision," the letter states. Last month Raghavaiah and J G Mahurkar,

The proposal to stop implementation of FDI in railways was supported by trade union leaders from different countries of the world.
