Cabinet approves 6 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance for government employees
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced a six percent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners on Tuesday.

With this hike, the DA increases from the previous 107 percent of basic pay to 113 percent.

The hike for the month of January which used to be announced in the month of March was delayed by the government leading to protests from various unions. 

The finance ministry have to issued the office memorandum before the DA with the arrears can be disbursed.

The employees’ bodies are also pressing hard to merger of 50 percent DA with basic pay but it has not been given heed by the seventh Pay Commission as well as the government.
