Ex-serviceman commits suicide over OROP issue A former serviceman on Wednesday committed suicide at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue.

Ram Kishan Grewal, the former jawan from Bhiwani district in Haryana who committed suicide, left a note which stated that he was taking this extreme step for the Indian soldiers.

"He called us and informed that he is committing suicide as the government has failed to fulfill their demands related to OROP," ANI quoted Grewal's son as saying.

Police told he along with some other ex-servicemen was in the process of submitting a memorandum to the Defence Ministry over the issue of OROP. According to his friends, Grewal had been upset over the issue for sometime.

Ex-servicemen have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for over a year now, demanding the implementation of OROP scheme which was scrapped by the Indira Gandhi government.
