Good News Soon on OROP: Defence Min Parrikar
Defence Minister Manohan Parrikar said today that "there will be good news soon on One Rank, One Pension" The minister's comments came amid protests across the nation by ex-servicemen demanding the implementation of OROP. Ex-servicemen have been protesting since June 14 to press for the implementation of One Rank, One Pension.

However it is unlikely the the OROP may be passed in the coming Monsoon session of the Parliament, which would commence on July 21.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of an orientation programme for elected members of Cantoment Boards (Central Command), Parrikar said, "Our commitment to implement the OROP remains intact. I cleared the file as soon as it came to my notice. However, since other ministries are involved, hence it is taking sometime. But, I assure you that the issue would be effectively addressed."

The OROP implementation was one of the hyped and much talked about BJP's election campaign promises. The govt even though have reiterated its commitment on the implementation of the OROP, it was non-committal on the time frame. The minister had said, "Since issues like this (OROP) involve more than one ministry, hence there cannot be any time-frame for its implementation."

Currently, the pension of retired personnel is based on the pay commission recommendations in force at the time of their retirement.
