Impact of DA merger : Calculator

Impact of DA merger : Calculator

Various media have reported that the Cabinet is likely to set the terms of reference of the 7th Pay Commission this week and the DA merger is likely to be included.  THe Government wants to settle the matter before model code of conducts are notified ahead of the general election. The employees are eagerly waiting for the announcement for the hike in the salary.

So how much is this hike going to be. The details of the merger are yet to be available, we have made a general assessment on this. In 2004 when the DA was merged, a new entity called the dearness pay was created to include the merged DA. Considering the same way, the dearness pay will be 50% of the Pay in pay band and the grade pay. Now new basic for all calculations will be sum of Pay in pay band + Grade pay + Dearness pay.  So now the balance DA of 50% w.e.f Jan 2014 and the HRA will be applied on this. The transport allowance also have the DA component associated with it. So it can be assumed that the the 50% will be merged with the basic component and remaining 50% applied over that.

Please note that this is only an approximation as the actual benefit will be known only after the government approves and issues formal orders for the DA merger.
