Govt makes it compulsory for officers in the national capital to attend I-Day speech
The Central Government has issued a circular making it compulsory for all its officers in the national capital to attend PM's Independence Day speech. A government source said, "It (The Independence Day) is a public function and efforts should made that whosoever comes should feel welcomed."

It is expected that the PM will reach out to govt employees specifically on Independence Day. Big ticket announcements are expected at the speech. It will be seen as the curtain raiser to the 100-day report card of the government. Plans have been laid for the speech from the Red Fort to be directly communicated to one crore government employees, such as school teachers, village sarpanches, healthcare workers etc, in the farthest corners of the country.

The speech has also significance as this will be the first ever address delivered by a Prime Minister born after Independence. Also for the first time in a very long time, the nation will be addressed by a powerful and charismatic orator.

The Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu also met Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, Ministry of Defense officials and Delhi MPs on Tuesday in this regard.

The government sources also informed that in order to ease the movement around the Red Fort, frisking and other security checks would be conducted in buses in which commuters will be travelling to hear PM speak rather than at the venue's entrance.

In a goodwill gesture, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is likely to wave off passenger fares on the Red Fort route on August 15.
