Modi to address ex-servicemen

15 Sep, 2013 11:26a.m.

The BJP prime minister candidate nominee, Narendra Modi will address an ex-servicemen’s rally at Rewari in Haryana. This will be his first public programme after being appointed as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

The former Army chief, Gen VK Singh, too, would attend the rally along with a number of senior, retired Army officers. Gen Singh is expected to join the BJP in presence of Modi.

The event can be seen as an attempt by Modi to hard-sell his policies and also to galvanise the BJP cadres across the country in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections. Modi will be speaking on national security and matters concerning ex-servicemen, including challenges faced by them in seeking post-retirement employment. His speech is likely to be watched for any promises he makes on issues concerning ex-servicemen and his attack on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for its handling of security issues such as incursions by China, repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan and instances of attack on Indian soldiers. The event will evoke a great deal of interest both within and outside the BJP. The BJP which claims the preference of the middle class and salaried class can make an impact at this event. It will also give an idea of BJP especially Modi towards the ex-service man as the government employees
