Maya threatens govt for quota promotion bill, Samajwadi vows not to pass it

Maya threatens govt for quota promotion bill, Samajwadi vows not to pass it BSP threatened to take a “tough stand” in case the government does not help bring order in the Rajya Sabha and ensuring the promotion quota bill is passed. The BSP appeared to be asking for the return of the favor done by helping the government pass the FDI bill

At the same time the members of the Samajwadi Party forced adjournment of the Rajya Sabha for the day Monday, minutes after Minister of State for Personnel V. Narayanasamy sought to move the bill to introduce quota in promotions. As soon as the house met at 2pm following earlier adjournments, samajwadi party members came near the chairman’s podium and raised slogans against the bill seeking reservation in promotions.

“Reservation in promotions will not work,” SP members said.

Narayanasamy stood up to urge the house to take up The Constitution (117th Amendment) Bill, 2012 for consideration and passage. However, Narayanasamy could not be heard in the turmoil created by the SP members in the house.

The bill, a major demand of the Bahujan Samaj Party, which is seen as a party supported by the SC/STs, seeks to provide reservations in promotions to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The government is seen to want the bill to be passed in this session. However parties other than BSP have not expressed much interest in this bill.
