Union cabinet approved dearness allowance to 90%

The union cabinet today approved the hike in the dearness allowance for the central government employees and the dearness relief for the pensioners. The hike will be 10% making the DA at 90% from the existing 80%. This is the first time that the DA hike is touching double digits in three years. The hike will have above 50 lakh central employees and 30 lakh pensioners receiving increased salary and pension. Additionally the hike will be with retrospective effect from July 2013, which means the employees and pensioners will receive additional money as arrears in the festival season

The hike apart from bringing a cheerful mood among the 80 lakh people as well as their family during the election time, will also help government by infusing the much needed money into the market. The beneficiaries will be much higher as the state governments are likely to follow the central government on DA hike.

The last time the DA hikes was in January 2013 when the it was increased to 80% from 72%. The government had then deferred the decision on the hike a couple of times.

Meanwhile speculations are making rounds that the next hike to be announced from January 2014 will be at least 10%
