DA hike Agenda in today's Cabinet Meeting, other sops in proposal
The union cabinet is to meet today (18/04/13) ) and the dearness allowance hike and other sops are among the agenda points. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be chairing a Cabinet meeting on Thursday. The press articles suggest that the government is set for an image makeover by taking crucial decisions having possible implications before the next general elections. The government is likely to take up the finance ministry proposal to hike dearness allowance of Central government employees by 8%. The move will benefit around 50 lakh employees and 30 lakh pensioners of the central government. as well as millions of state government employees and pensioners as the states follow the central government DA hikes. The government expects some of these benefits may be converted into votes for the general elections.

However even if the DA hike is in the agenda points, the finance minister is out of the country till April 22. Last time the cabinet had deferred the decision on enhancement of DA due to absence of Finance Minister.
