OROP:Ex-servicemen rallies across India; Indefinite relay hunger strike from June 15

OROP:Ex-servicemen rallies across India; Indefinite relay hunger strike from June 15 The ex-servicemen will organise mahasangram rallies in around 55 cities across India seeking implementation of the One Rank One Pension. The rally will be followed by an indefinite relay hunger strike commencing from June 15 at 9 AM. Around 5,000 people are expected to join the protest. Veterans are also likely to meet President Pranab Mukherjee in the afternoon.

Major General (retired) Satbir Singh said, " Our protest will start from June 14. The protest will continue till OROP is implemented. There will be rally all across the country. After the rally there will be an indefinite hunger strike. We will handover our medals to the supreme commander."

Seeking an intervention, the ex-servicemen had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for the implementation of OROP as soon as possible. While the government had said that it is in favour of the scheme, it is unwilling to commit to a timeline.

Vowing to address the "vexed" issue of OROP, Modi had on May 31 sought "some time" from the ex-servicemen. Modi had said the issue is not as simple as he had thought but much more "vexed" as "problems" have been added to it over the years.
