Surgical operation by Indian army in Myanmar to avenge guerrilla killings

Surgical operation by Indian army in Myanmar to avenge guerrilla killings In a rare demonstration of its capabilities, special forces carried out "surgical strikes" inside Myanmar where the guerrillas had fled to after the deadly attack on security forces leaving 20 armymen killed. The cross border revenge attack was done in coordination with the Myanmar regime after the clearance to conduct the surgical strikes were given at the highest level in the government.

The Indian Army on Tuesday night issued an official statement on the surgical cross-border operations conducted by Special Forces on the Myanmar border, targeting militants involved in the Manipur ambush.

Quoting Major General Ranbir Singh, Additional Director General of Military Operations (A), the Indian Army said that the troops were on a high-alert following the attack on the security personnel on June 4 in Chandel, Manipur.

"Any threat to safety, security and national integrity will meet with a similar response," an Army spokesman said.

The army may not admit to carrying out the rare cross-border operation.

The Ministry of Defence on Tuesday said the operations carried out by the army at the Indo-Myanmar border were necessary in light of intelligence reports which warned of militants planning attacks on Indian soil.

The operation that the Indian army launched along the Myanmar border today was possibly one of the toughest in the region till date.

Over a 100 army personnel with aerial support combed the area extensively and inflicted severe damage on the militants who have been hiding along the Myanmar border.

In addition to operations targeting militants along the border, the army is also looking for their local informers India. If these local supporters are nabbed then the militants would find it extremely difficult to operate in India. While they have base in Myanmar they are heavily dependent on the local network for intelligence.
