Income Tax offices to stay open this week end
To meet the huge demand of income taxpayers, the Income Tax offices will stay open this weekend to accept tax returns. Tax offices will operate during regular office hours on Saturday and Sunday, like any other working day.

The last date for filing income tax returns is July 31.

Special arrangements have also been made by way of opening additional receipt counters, wherever required, from on July 26 to 28 and July 30 and 31.

There is a note of caution for defaulters on the tax department's on e-filing website urging them to 'act now'.

In 2014, Income Tax Department has identified additional 22,09,464 non-filers who have done high value transactions. .

In 2013, the tax department issued letters to 12,19,832 non-filers who had done high value transactions.

The Income Tax department will soon start updating taxpayers about the status of their refunds and processing of certain tax statements by sending real-time SMSes and emails, on similar lines as that of credit card and bank transactions at present, it had earlier said.
