IT returns date extended to August 5

IT returns date extended to August 5 The government extended the last date for filing of income tax to August 5. The due date, which was scheduled for July 31, 2014 has been extended in wake of 'unprecedented surge' in number of Income Tax returns being filed electronically. The e filing site was witnessing a huge traffic and facing severe connectivity issues.

As per the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), there has been an unprecedented surge in number of returns being e-filed. Till date, 92 lakh returns have been electronically filed. This means 46.8 per cent higher than the returns e-filed during the corresponding period last fiscal.
