IDA merger for BSNL employees

IDA merger for BSNL employees
The order on 78.2% IDA merger has finally been issued today the 10-06-2013, by the DoT. BSNL will issue the order tomorrow. The DoT order states that the revised benefit will be paid with prospective effect only (that is from 10 June 2013) and no arrears will be paid.

The BSNL employees had proposed indefinite strike from 12 June and that has been called off today following settlement of demand for wage revision.

Around 2.5 lakh employees and executives of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited had decided to go on indefinite strike from tomorrow demanding 78.2 per cent IDA (industrial dearness allowance) merger with the basic salary.
Speaking to The Statesman, Mr Saibal Sengupta, convener of the forum for BSNL's Kolkata circle, said the DoT order in this regard came yesterday, while the BSNL management has given its clearance today.

The order further stated that BSNL has to bear the additional financial implication on account of revised fitment benefit for pay revision from its own resources and no budgetary support will be provided by the government.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by the finance minister Mr P Chidambaram, constituted in April to draw revival plan for BSNL and MTNL, has been deferred by a day to 12 June 2013.

The department of telecom has already send its recommendations to the GoM, including effective use of BSNL and MTNL's excess land, sharing tower and optical fibre network and voluntary retirement scheme for additional employees of BSNL and MTNL, which are likely to come up for consideration during the GoM meeting tomorrow, a BSNL official said.
