Before going into the general elections, Finance Minister P Chidambaram lured Defence personnel with approving their long-pending demand of One Rank, One Pension (OROP) in his Interim Budget. The minister in his budget speech have announced that the government will implement One rank, one pension for defense services personnel from next financial year.
Delivering speech on Vote on Account in the Lok Sabha,Chidambaram said that the government has accepted the one rank one pension scheme for the defense forces. "Rs 500 crore will be transferred in 2014-15 for implementing the 'one rank one pay' decision," said the Minister
The move comes after Congress Gen. Secretary met a group of ex-servicemen and told that he backed their long-standing demand. "I am on your side. I understand your concerns. You give your life for the country, I will do all that I can to see that your demands are met," said Gandhi, addressing a gathering of over 500 ex-servicemen in Delhi.
