MNS announces candidates, will support Narendra Modi for PM post
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has announced the first list of seven candidates for the parliament elections. However the party chief Raj Thackeray said that his party will support the candidature of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for the post of prime minister in the “larger national interest”.

Out of the seven, six are contested by the Shiv Sena and the seventh by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at party’s eighth foundation day function in Mumbai, Thackeray said, “In the larger national interest, MNS’s MPs will support Modi’s candidature for prime ministership. I feel only Modi can provide stable, Rajstrong and growth-oriented government to country.”
The seats that the MNS will contest elections include Mumbai (South), Mumbai (South Central), Mumbai (North-West), Kalyan, Shirur, Nashik and Pune. Out of these, as per a seat-sharing agreement between the Shiv Sena and the BJP, only Pune is contested by the BJP.

Earlier the BJP leader Nitin Gadkari had discussions with Raj Thackeray and had asked him not to field candidates as this will only help congress by split in anti-congress votes. The meet had drawn anger from the alliance partner Shiv Sena, which in their party newspaper The Saamna, in an editorial on Wednesday, slammed Nitin Gadkari for holding secret talks with Raj Thackeray without the Shiv Sena's knowledge.
