Samsung unveils Galaxy Gear smartwatch. A first look Riding on its success as the leading smartphone manufacturer, the Korean electronic giant Samsung, has unveiled its wearable gadget - the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. The device will be a companion device to smartphones/tablets. The wearable device syncs with Galaxy smartphones and tablets, allowing users to do things like control their music or check messages without touching their mobile devices. Gear runs Android, though the customized interface closely resemble's Microsoft's operating system. Gear features 70 optimized built-in apps, including big names such as Evernote and Pinterest.

The smart watch comes with an OLED display measures around 2.5-inch diagonally and about 3-inch including the case. The watch is powered by .a  800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.  Other features detailed include a  1.9-megapixel camera with autofocus  microphone and speakers integrated into the strap, NFC and Bluetooth.

The Galaxy Gear smart watch will run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The battery backup of the device is said to be around 24 hours with normal use and 10 hours with active usage.

The company have managed to launch the product in a way that was timed before the launch of a much hyped product from its competitor - Apple.  

The Gear will be available in six different colours - Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, and Lime Green.

Currently the device connects to the new Galaxy Note 3 via Bluetooth 4.0, but Samsung is promising that the Gear Manager app will be compatible with other devices like the Galaxy S4 and other Note devices in due time.

The device is scheduled to hit stores on Sept. 25 

The price for the device is not announced.
