Railways: Promotion against promotion quota to be taken on priority

Sub: Promotion to the Railway Staff of various categories against promotion quota vacancies – reg.

NFIR has brought to Board’s notice that a number of promotional vacancies remain unfilled on Zonal Railways and Production Units. it has been stated that in case promotions are granted to the staff and effected prior to 30th June, 2021, such promoted employee will have the advantage of receiving annual increment from 1st January 2022. Any delay in granting promotions against promotional quota vacancies impacts benefit of resulting increment in time.

The matter has been examined. Instructions already exist for timely filling up of promotional posts and maintenance of Calendar for Selections/Suitability/Trade- Tests. Monitoring implementation of these instructions is essential to ensure timely promotions.

In the review meeting held with PCPOs in April, 2021, Railways have reported majority of selections/suitability/trade test in the last two years have been completed despite disruption due to the pandemic.

It is hereby reiterated that further action may be taken on priority to clear any pending selections as well as expedite ongoing selections, to avoid any hardship to. employees.
