Railway: TA admissibility during lockdown

 

The Railways have issued a notification on the admissibility of Transport Allowance to the employees who could not attend their offices during the nation-wide lockdown. The order says that the admissibility will be based on the order issued bt the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. (Read: Clarification: No TA for those who didn't attend the office for the whole month) Accordingly, the railway employees who didn't attend the office for the whole month even if under work-from-home, cannot claim the Transport Allowance. The ministry clarified that the Transport Allowance is issued for the purpose of meeting the expense of commuting between residence and office. As this expense has not been incurred, the TA will not be paid.

Sub: Clarification regarding admissibility of Transport Allowance during Nation-wide Lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic.

References/ queries have been received from various Zonal Railways/PUs seeking clarification regarding admissibility of Transport Allowance to the employees who could not attend their offices during nation-wide Lockdown period. On this matter, the Ministry of Finance/Department of Expenditure vide their OM No. 21/3/2020-E.II (B) dated 01-12-2020 has issued necessary clarification, a copy of which is forwarded herewith for information and compliance. These instructions shall apply mutatis-mutandis on the Railways also.

2. This issues with the concurrence of Finance Directorate of Ministry of Railways.
