The cabinet meeting and CCEA scheduled today had been cancelled and therefore the decision on resumption of dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) will not be taken today. It is now expected that a decision would be made soon and the announcement is around the corner.
The meetings were scheduled to take place at 11 am, hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to effect the first reshuffle in his Council of Ministers since he assumed charge for a second term.
Earlier, media reports had stated that a decision on the resumption of DA would be taken today at a Cabinet meeting. As it was agreed to implement the hikes from July onwards, it is expected that the announcement will not be delayed much. As this is an important decision impacting over one crore central government employees and pensioners, there are chances that the announcement will be made in the first meeting of the new cabinet as a goodwill buildup measure.
