Congress demands immediate restoration of the DA installments

Congress demands immediate restoration of the DA installments

The Congress on Saturday hit out at the government for not releasing the dearness allowance suspended last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, terming the suspension of its three installments as “cruel and insensitive”.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said the government should ensure that employees and pensioners get “real real dues”. He demanded immediate restoration of the allowance.

Singhvi said that the decision to cut allowances will be given to the government by June 2021. ₹38,000 crores at the cost of its employees including Armed Forces personnel and pensioners.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the cut” ₹11,000 crores out of 15 lakh serving Armed Forces personnel and about 26 lakh (2.6 million) military pensioners. What is their fault?”

He said the cuts were made retroactive in April. “But doesn’t the government understand that people needed money during the COVID-19 crisis?”

He said the delay in releasing the allowance is a reflection of the government’s “innate hypocrisy and double standards”. “On one hand it talks of nationalism and on the other it does not release allowances and arrears of employees serving the country,” he said.
