Nokia Asha 501 smart phone to be launched in June for less than 5.5k Nokia has unveiled the new overhauled Asha touch series. The Asha 501 is the first phone in the series to be unveiled, and it will be priced at $99 (around Rs 5,370). The company is expected to launch the phone in India sometime in June this year.

Asha 501The Asha 501 is aimed at people who cannot afford a smartphone, but want to upgrade. The company has has worked with developers such as Facebook and Twitter to make apps for the phone. The phone sports a 3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). The phone will be available in single and dual-SIM variants but will support only 2G. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB 2.0. The phone has a 3.2-megapixel camera at the back, but no flash. It offers 17 hours of talk time, 56 hours of music playback and 48 days of standby time on 2G network.

Nokia is working with wireless carrier Airtel and Facebook to provide free data access through the Asha Facebook app and all mobile Facebook web pages to Asha 501 users connected to Airtel neworks in India as well as Africa.

The phone will be available in red, blue, black, yellow, white and green.
