SC frames guidelines for eviction of unauthorised occupants of Government bungalows, asks to stop pension

SC frames guidelines for eviction of unauthorised occupants of Government bungalows, asks to stop pension The Supreme Court has taken a serious note of the unauthorised occupation of government bungalows by bureaucrats, ministers and judges. In the verdict delivered on Friday, the apex court laid down guidelines for the eviction of unauthorised occupants and said that their pension can be stopped if the person refuses to vacate the bungalow.

"Judges should vacate government accommodation within a month after retirement, which can be extended for another month," the court ruled. The court directed the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to initiate action against MPs and ministers for over-staying in government accommodations.

The apex court has also addressed the controversy surrounding Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and her late father Babu Jagjivan Ram's bungalow by stating that government bungalows cannot be converted into memorials.
