Skip to mainUnder the updated One Rank One Pension, or OROP, policy that the government authorised today, about 25 lakh military pensioners will benefit.
According to the government, family pensioners, including war widows and seniors with disabilities, will receive payments under the new OROP.
One Rank One Pension, or OROP, is a programme that attempts to provide uniform pensions for military members who retire at the same rank and with the same amount of service.
According to the OROP proposal, it will result in increased pension, according to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur.
He claimed that as per the OROP proposal, the choice would result in an improved pension. Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, presided over the cabinet meeting.
The choice was made in an effort to entice young people to join the military forces.
According to Thakur, the benefit would also be extended to family pensioners, such as war widows and retirees who are incapacitated. About 25.13 lakh retired members of the armed forces and their dependent pensioners will receive benefits, he claimed.
Personnel from the armed forces who retired before June 30, 2019, are covered by this change. The revision will cost an estimated Rs. 8450 crore annually. Beginning on July 1, 2019, the arrears will last through June 30, 2022.
The Narendra Modi administration decided to introduce OROP on November 7, 2015, with benefits beginning on July 1, 2014.
The military has long insisted on OROP, which states that retired troops of the same rank who retired after serving for the same amount of time will receive the same pension regardless of the day and year they retired.
