Andhra to go for staff regularisation after Dasara

With the governor, S Abdul Nazeer, giving his assent to the bill proposed for regularisation of contract employees, the state government is expected to initiate the process after Dasara festival. The government will issue detailed guidelines for the regularization of employees in different departments. In fact, the state government had already gathered information from all the departments about the staffers working on a contract basis prior to June 2, 2014, the day of bifurcation of AP.

Although the state government initially wanted to regularise only those who got appointed as per the original cadre strength and approval of the finance department, the rules have been relaxed following the requests from the employees’ associations. Similarly, the mandatory minimum service of five years prior to 2014 has also been removed to bring as many eligible employees as possible into the regularisation bracket.

According to data collected by the finance department, about 10,117 employees working on contract basis were found to be eligible for regularisation. All these employees would be absorbed into the respective departments with regular pay scales, with immediate effect. The regularisation of staffers is expected to cause an annual financial burden to the tune of 311 crore on the exchequer.

Sources said about 3,600 contract lecturers working in junior colleges would get the UGC scales after regularisation.
