NMOPS demands changes to NPS to make one nation, one pension

NMOPS demands changes to NPS to make one nation, one pension

An employees' organisation has asked the Centre to examine modifications to the National Pension System (NPS) to assure the socio-economic stability of lakhs of employees, demanding a "one nation, one pension" scheme.

A letter in support of the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS), an umbrella organisation representing more than 14 lakh central and state government employees, has been sent to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam and Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh by the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS).

According to a letter issued by Manjeet Singh Patel, president of the NMOPS Delhi section, following retirement from the NPS, there is no certainty of receiving half of the last basic pay drawn plus dearness allowance as a retirement income.

As a result, pensioners with fewer years of service receive a relatively small income, ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000, according to the letter, which also points out that the previous pension scheme guarantees a minimum salary of Rs 9,000 at the time of retirement.

NMOPS asked the government to establish the National Pension System (NPS) a universal platform of pension for different sorts of personnel functioning under central autonomous bodies and public sector units, among other things, along the lines of the "one nation, one ration card" programme.
