Sub: Exemption from Speed Test in Stenography @100 w.p.m. for promotion from Stenographer Grade III to Stenographer Grade I in Level-6 who have already acquired higher speed @120 w.p.m.

Ref.: Board’s letter No. E(NG)I-2018/PM4/4 dated 13.02.20219 addressed to GM(P)/N.F. Railway.

One of the Railways had sought clarification whether Stenographers, who have already cleared the speed test @ 100 w.p.m or higher speed, for advance increment, may be exempted to appear in the shorthand test at the time of their promotion to Stenographer Grade 1.

The matter was considered by the Board and the position was clarified to the railway as under:-

“Stenographer Gr. III, who have cleared the Shorthand Test @ 100 w.p.m or above either at entry level or for advance increments, need not be subjected to the Shorthand Test @,100 w. p.m at the time of their promotion to Stenographer Gr. I”.

The above clarification would be equally applicable to all Zonal Railways/PUs.
