DA Hike announced for Central Govt Employees under 5th, 6th CPCs

The Finance Ministry has announced a 7% DA hike for central government employees and pensioners under the 6th Pay Commission, raising it from 239% to 246% of basic pay, effective July 1, 2024. Additionally, the DA for those under the 7th Pay Commission has increased to 53%.

The Finance Ministry’s Department of Public Enterprises has announced a Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for select central government employees receiving salaries under the 5th and 6th Pay Commissions. The increase was formalised in an Office Memorandum issued on November 7, 2024.

The office memorandum said, "The undersigned is directed to refer to this Department's O.M. No. 1/3(1)/2008-Ε.ΙΙ(B) dated 3rd June, 2024 on the subject mentioned above and to say that the rate of Dearness Allowance (DA) in respect of employees of Central Government and Central Autonomous Bodies, who are continuing to draw their pay in the pre-revised pay scale/Grade Pay as per 6th Central Pay Commission, shall be enhanced from the existing rate of 239% to 246% of Basic Pay w.e.f. 01.07.2024."

Government departments and companies that follow Central Government pay scales have been asked to ensure that all relevant employees are kept up to date on the DA hike.

"The contents of this Office Memorandum may also be brought to the notice of all organisations under the administrative control of the Ministries/Departments which have adopted the Central Government scales of pay," the circular added.

The government has announced an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees and retirees under the 7th Central Pay Commission. The DA and DR have been increased from 50% to 53%, beginning July 1, 2024.

The Dearness Allowance (DA) for more than 1 crore central government employees and pensioners was recently increased by 3%, to 53% of their base wage. DA is updated twice a year, with modifications taking effect on January 1 and July 1.
