UP hikes DA for government staff from 28% to 31%

In lines with the union government announcement, the Uttar Pradesh State Government has also increased the dearness allowance for government employees by three percentage points, from 28 per cent to 31 per cent. From July 2021, the raise will be retroactive, and the arrears will be remitted to the employees' provident fund account.

The most recent change occurred on July 28, 2021, when the DA was increased to 28 per cent, which has been the rate at which employees have received DA since then. Due to Covid-19, a review of the DA was postponed till 2020, at which time the DA was 17 per cent.

Around 16 lakh government employees and 12 lakh pensioners will be benefited from this move.

According to an official, the DA is increased twice a year, on January 1 and July 1, but the Centre and then the state announced in April 2020 that there will be no DA modification until July 1, 2021, in order to help the government financially weather the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to government officials, a portion of the amended DA would be placed in NPS accounts for people who are members of the scheme. Those who retired before the decision was made will get cash payments for their dues.
