190 casualties in defence forces and 70000 coronavirus infections

45,576 Indian army personnel, 14,022 Indian Air Force personnel, and 7,747 Indian Navy personnel were was infected with the novel coronavirus so far. The details were given by the minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt in response to a question. in the Rajya Sabha.

According to Bhatt, the number of deaths was the highest in the Indian Army, with 137 casualties. According to him, the Indian Air Force lost 49 service members, while the Indian Navy lost four.

According to current rules, the Ministry of Defence does not provide special compensation to Armed Forces personnel who die as a result of infectious disease while they are on active duty. However, in all such cases of death, while in service, terminal benefits are provided, Bhatt added.

"In addition, on September 11, 2021, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued guidelines for the grant of ex-gratia assistance of Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand only) per deceased person, including those involved in relief operations or associated in preparedness activities, subject to the cause of death being certified as covid19 as per the 'Guidelines for Official Document for covid-19 Death' jointly issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Indian Council of Medical Research on the 3rd September 2021
