CBI filed 715 corruption cases against Central govt staff in 5 years

From 2017 to 2021, the CBI has filed 715 corruption cases against 715 Central government employees in 45 departments as stated by the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, Jitendra Singh informed at the Rajya Sabha.

In a written response, Jitendra Singh stated that the probe agency had arrested 1,281 employees from various departments on bribery and corruption charges.

According to him, the concerned cadre controlling authorities (CCAs) take action in individual cases in accordance with the respective Disciplinary Rules. To combat corruption in the Central government, 210 cases were filed in 2017, 158 in 2018, 141 in 2019, 95 in 2020, and 111 in 2021. In Ghaziabad, the CBI has arrested a senior intelligence official and another person in connection with a bribery case.

Under the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the country has strict penal laws for public servants who are accused of corruption.

Benami transactions are prohibited under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act of 1988. The Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 makes it illegal for public officials to launder money. Since 2005, India has been a signatory (but not ratified) of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
