Lok Sabha Q&A : Disability pension to cadets under consideration

Minister of State, Ministry of Defence, Shri Ajay Bhatt has informed that the proposal for grant of disability pension to cadets medically boarded out from training on account of disability attributable to/aggravated by military training is under examination by the Judge Advocate Generals (JAGs) of Army, Air Force and Navy in the Ministry of Defence. The minister was replying to a question at the Lok Sabha on whether the grant of disability pension to cadets medically boarded out from training on account of disability attributable to/aggravated by military training. 

For the question, on the timeline by which the Government intends to grant disability pension to cadets medically boarded out from training on account of disability no specific answer was given by the minister other than that it is under consideration.

There was a question, the question of whether some of these cadets with up to a hundred per cent disability continue to languish without any resettlement option or even medical treatment? The minister stated that the Ex-Cadets, as they are not Ex-Servicemen, are not entitled to resettlement opportunities and Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS)facility

"DGR is mandated to provide resettlement opportunities to Ex-Servicemen of the Army, Navy and Air Force. Similarly, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) facility is available to Ex-Servicemen who are in receipt of Defence pension. Ex-Cadets being non-ESM, are not entitled to resettlement opportunities and ECHS facility."
