Union Home Minister Amit Shah's announced that employees of the Chandigarh Union Territory administration will the same benefits as Central government employees. The Union minister made the announcement after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for a slew of projects of the Chandigarh Police.
Mr Shah had previously stated that the Chandigarh UT administration's service conditions will be aligned with those of the central civil services, allowing women to take more child care leave and increasing their retirement age.
"The retirement age of employees in the Union Territory will now go up from 58 to 60 years," Mr Shah said, adding that employees will "benefit in a big way." Employees will now be entitled to two years of child care leave instead of the current one year.
Mr Shah made the announcement while inaugurating a slew of Chandigarh Police projects, saying it was a "long-pending demand of Chandigarh administration employees."
"Today, the Modi government took a significant step... Mr Shah stated, "A notification will be issued tomorrow, and you will receive the benefit beginning April 1 of the next fiscal year."
While there was no reaction from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann or his ministers, senior AAP leader and Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that BJP is "scared" of the rise of AAP.
"From 2017 to 2022 Congress-ruled Punjab. Amit Shah didn't take away Chandigarh's powers then. As soon as AAP formed Govt in Punjab, Amit Shah took away Chandigarh's services," Mr Sisodia tweeted.
