Skip to mainThe Department of Posts has amended the rules such that in case the dependant of a deceased employee does not possess the required qualification for the posting to GDS under compassionate grounds, he or she will be given three years time to acquire the educational qualification. As per the existing rules, if the dependant does not possess the requisite educational qualification at the time of death of the Gramin Dak Sevak, he will not be eligible for the compassionate appointment. The appointee will not be regularised until the qualification is acquired. He will not be eligible for annual increments or transfer till that time.

OFFICE MEMORANDUM
Kindly refer to this office letter No. 17-01/2017-GDS dated 30.05.2017 and letter of even number dated 12.11.2021 on the above-mentioned subject.
2. Present guidelines on compassionate engagement does not provide engagement of dependent of deceased GDS if she/he does not possess requisite educational qualification at the time of death of the Sevak or while applying for engagement on compassionate grounds.
3. In this context, several references were received from Service Unions. The matter has been examined by the Competent Authority and approved that only for the post of Dak Sevaks can consider and may be given considerable time up to maximum 3 years for acquiring of the minimum required educational qualification as prescribed with the following terms and conditions: –
4. This OM comes into effect from the date of issue.
5. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
