Confederation demands revision of CGHS rates

Confederation demands revision of CGHS rates

The Confederation Of Central Government Employees & Workers has written to the Director-General of the Central Government Health Scheme demanding action for the revision of the rates paid to the empanelled hospitals. The letter claims that the Central Govt. Employees and pensioners are deprived of the treatment because of the low rates that the hospitals claim as unviable.

The hospitals have also had repeatedly written about the CGHS's abysmal rates, which have forced many doctors and hospitals to drop out. A typical indoor consultation costs Rs. 300 and an outdoor consultation costs Rs. 150. Not only for consultations but also for popular procedures. Normal delivery is Rs 9200 (to NABH Hospitals) under CGHS and includes all hospital services. In contrast, private patients are currently charged Rs 50,000 or more in Tier 1 cities. Similarly, an X-ray chest test costs Rs 65, but the institutions claim that even the film raw material costs more.

These rates that were set in the year 2014 was having a validity of 2 years and was supposed to be revised in 2016. Despite assurance from various corners, even in 2022, the same rates are being followed.

The copy of the letter by the confederation is reproduced below.

Sub: – Revision of rates of C.G.H.S. for empanelled Hospitals.
Sir,

We are receiving so many representations that so many C.G.H.S. empanelled hospitals in various metro cities are denying to provide treatment to C. G. II. S. beneficiaries on the existing rates which have not been revised since 2014. More and more hospitals are withdrawing from the panel of CGHS.

It has caused more suffering to the Central Govt. Employees and pensioners are deprived of the treatment.

It is therefore requested to kindly cause necessary action to revise the rates so that the existing empanelled hospitals should not withdraw and efforts should be made to bring some more hospitals in the panel of CGHS.

An early action is highly solicited.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

(R. N. Parashar)
Secretary-General
