West Bengal state employees to get 48 days closed holidays in 2022

West Bengal state employees to get 48 days closed holidays in 2022

West Bengal has scheduled a long list of vacations for State Government employees in 2022. The overall number of public holidays is 48, according to the State Government's 2022 calendar, which was released last week. 11 of these days fall on Sundays. However, the West Bengal state employees get to take 37 vacation days per year, something that their counterparts in other countries would likely desire for.

Unlike many other State Government employees, the staff appeared unconcerned by the fact that many of the public holidays in 2022 would fall on a Sunday. "I am confident that the government will make amends closer to the respective dates," the civil servant stated. In fact, the schedule already accounts for one conflict: normally, the day after Saraswati Puja is also a holiday, but because the next day is a Sunday in 2022, the day before Saraswati Puja has been designated as a holiday.

Due to Durga Puja, state government employees will be able to take a one-third month off from work in October. The Puja vacations start on September 30 and last until October 10. Following the lengthy Puja holidays, Kali Puja will be closed for three days.

Mamata Banerjee, who has been accused by her critics of favoring Muslims, announced in late 2019 that she would double the number of Hindu festival holidays in the 2020 calendar. She was clearly looking ahead to the Assembly elections, which were just around the horizon at the moment. Those extra vacation days, on the other hand, are now a permanent part of the government's calendar. Saraswati Puja, Holi, Chhat, and Id-ul-Fitr are currently celebrated in West Bengal with two-day holidays. In late 2019, the festivals of Shivaratri and Janmashtami, which are more popular in north India but are rarely observed in West Bengal, were also declared public holidays.
