Kerala not planning to hike retirement age for government employees

In the wake of speculation and rumours about the government's plans to raise the retirement age for government employees, Kerala finance minister KN Balagopal stated that the administration had not yet discussed the issue.

During the financial crisis, the government must evaluate a number of factors in order to cut costs. However, according to the minister, no deliberation or discussion about raising the retirement age has yet taken place. He did, however, remind out that the state administration is now reviewing a number of studies related to budget increases.

According to Balagopal, the procedures for redeploying government staff will be carried out in stages. Similarly, he stated that procedures to prevent ineligible individuals from receiving social pensions will continue.

Many other states have followed the union government's ideas, such as appointing workers on a contract basis to decrease the strain on the government's coffers. The Kerala administration, on the other hand, has not implemented such recommendations.

It has been learned that the exchequer is in such a position that the state can only move forward by equally balancing revenue and expenses. It's also worth noting that the federal government is now only distributing half of the tax revenue that is intended to be shared with the states. Kerala, for example, has proposed raising this percentage to 60%.
