Skip to mainThe Kendriya Vidyalayas, often known as Central Schools, are India's public schools. The educational quality is on a level with, if not better than, that of the best private institutions in the country. Under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, or Chain of Central Schools, was established (MHRD). It has 1,248 schools in India and three abroad, in Moscow, Tehran, and Kathmandu, as of August 2021. Kendriya Vidyalaya Headquarters in New Delhi oversees the system, which is divided into 25 regional offices and five Zonal Institutes of Education and Training. The Central Board of Secondary Education oversees all of the schools (CBSE). Every school in India follows a standardised curriculum.
The Kendriya Vidyalayas are designed to ensure that the children of government employees do not encounter educational disadvantages when their parents are relocated from one region to another by providing a unified syllabus and educational system. It was founded with the goal of educating the children of Indian Defence Forces personnel stationed in remote areas. Later, the service was expanded to all central government employees and staff, but it was not limited to them.
Most people think of Kendriya Vidyalaya schools as a place where they can get an excellent education at a reasonable price. A Single Girl Child is entitled to free education in Kendriya Vidyalayas The Kendriya Vidyalayas has numerous other advantages. Teachers who work at KV are thought to be the best. They are chosen through a series of highly demanding national exams. Because it is run by the government, it has a pretty nice infrastructure, albeit you won't find the same amenities as private schools, such as swimming pools and shooting ranges. The majority of KVs have large campuses. Many KVs are located in military communities and have big spaces for sports and games.
Cultural diversity is yet another distinguishing feature of KVs. Because central government employees from various ministries and departments across the country are given priority in admission and their wards are given transfers, you will discover students from all across the country with a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. In KVs, a variety of festivals are observed. Students have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop talent in athletics, music, dancing, art, scouts and guides, and NCC. Many sports and extracurricular activities are organised at the Vidyalaya and national levels to aid in the development of teamwork, adaptability, and discipline.
In Kendriya Vidyalaya, new admissions to Class I are made by lot from all applications. If the number of applications for classes 2 to 8 exceeds the number of seats available, a lottery mechanism will be used in each category. There will be an admissions test for class 9. Admission to Class XI in different streams viz Science, Commerce, Humanities in KVs for KV students will be based on aggregate marks scored in class X exams. If seats remain vacant in class XI even after admitting the children of KV/neighbouring KVs then the admissions to non - KV children may be granted on the same criteria, in the sequence of categories of priority.
The admission guidelines specify various priorities to be followed in granting admissions. For KVs in the Civil or Defence Sector, the following order of priority should be followed.
Eligibility criteria on age for admission:
For KVS class-I: 5 years to 7 years
KVS class-II: 6 years to 8 years
