Jan CPI-IW up by 0.5 pts. 3% DA hike expected from July 2023.

The All-India CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers) for January increased by 0.5 points to 132.8 points compared to December 2022. The figure was 132.3 for December 2022

The maximum upward pressure in the current index came from the housing group, which contributed 0.40 percentage points to the total change.

For the Central Government Employees, the CPI-IW index will be used for calculating the DA from July 2023. The Dearness Allowance from July 2023 will be calculated based on the 12 monthly averages of the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) from July 2022 to June 2023. With data for January 2023 available, 5 more indices are required to calculate the DA from July 2023. Hence it is too early to predict the exact DA. However, it is anticipated that the July 2023 DA will be 45% with a hike of 3% from the anticipated 42% from January 2023.
