Delhi government employees to get ₹7,000 bonus ahead of Diwali

Ahead of the upcoming Diwali festival, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, announced a special bonus of ₹7,000 for all non-gazetted Group B and Group C government employees on November 6.

During a press conference, CM Kejriwal disclosed that the Delhi government has earmarked ₹56 crore for distributing Diwali bonuses to 80,000 government employees.

He stated, "We are extending a ₹7,000 bonus to government employees in Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C roles within the Delhi government. Currently, approximately 80,000 individuals serve in these positions for the Delhi government. A total expenditure of ₹56 crore is designated for this bonus."

Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, symbolizes the spiritual triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Kartik, coinciding with the new moon (Amavasya). This year, Diwali falls on November 12, a Sunday.

In the previous month, the Central government led by Narendra Modi also sanctioned bonuses for non-gazetted Group B and Group C officials, including paramilitary forces. The finance ministry set the maximum limit for non-productivity linked bonuses (ad-hoc bonuses) for central government employees at ₹7,000 for the fiscal year 2022-23.
